Soaring Back to School Day Camp - August 29 to September 2

What and why?

Summer is a time for children to enjoy a longer stretch of unstructured time and get away from the routine of the regular school year. Going back to school in the fall for many children is a time of great anticipation and excitement: finding out who their teacher is going to be, who will be in their class and what their friends did over the summer break. For children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Acquired Brain Injury or other developmental issues, going back to school, or any other significant change, can be extremely anxiety provoking. Not only do the children face the upcoming change with a sense of fear and dread, but the parents and caregivers see the looming challenges on the horizon causing undue anxiety.

As a result, Creative Therapy Health Services has designed a week long, full day, Soaring Back to School Camp with the needs of those children at the forefront. The camp includes a range of tasks and activities that will be enjoyable for the children while providing them programming specifically geared towards transition back to school. Key benefits of the camp include:
• High ratio of camp counsellors and therapists to children (not more than 3 children per counsellor)
• Unique programming designed for your child by an Occupational Therapist
• Socialization opportunities with peers in a safe and comfortable environment
• Creative activities for exploring artistic talents
• Physical exercise, balance and gross motor skills development through fun interactive games
• Activities to provide children coping strategies for managing change
• Lunch and snacks included (children to participate in the preparation of some meals)

Counsellors: A registered Occupational Therapist is responsible for the overall programming of the entire camp, designing activities specific to each child and involved directly hands-on for at least half time.  There will be at least a 3:1 or better ratio of children to counsellors.  The assigned consellors are trained, experienced in working with children with special needs and supervised by an Occupational Therapist.

Is this camp right for my child?  This camp is specifically designed for children who are experiencing learning or developmental issues including Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)or Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).  The programming is structured to address social issues, task transition and other skills required for participation in a school environment.  If you have any questions about whether this camp is appropriate for your child please fill out the information/registration form below or contact us at Creative Therapy.  We respect the due diligence of parents and caregivers in ensuring appropriate services for their child.
